Description
Lime Kiln Lighthouse is situated on the west side of San Juan Island in the State of Washington. It dates from about 1919. Built on solid rock about 20 feet above high water, it is constructed of reinforced concrete. There was a fresnel lens and a huge foghorn worked by compressed air.
The name was derived from local lime kilns dating from the 1860's Limestone was quarried for stone and lime used in making mortar.
