Title
Point of Shoals Lighthouse
Artist
Ira Shander
Medium
Drawing - Pen And Ink
Description
At one time, Chesapeake Bay was dotted with screw pile lighthouses. This technique was employed because of the shallow waters. Only two remain. Their fanciful wooden architecture is sorely missed.
Please note, original drawing has been sold and in a private collection.

Maryland, my Maryland. Great classic image, Ira. - Mike (V)

Even though I live just outside of Philly, I really love the Chesapeake Bay area. The old steamboats and historic towns have such a rich history.

Wish I could draw...you are so talented Ira...Love the fine detail..l/f
Ira Shander replied:
Thanks Denise. I enjoy watching an image appear and form on the page. It's always a gamble. Like anything, you never know if the finished drawing will match what you feel and see in your head. I have pieces waiting to be finished. The older I get, the more I respect creativity in people. It's really a sacred process. Much to be cherished and respected. Chesapeake Bay which is surrounded by the state of Maryland is very scenic and beautiful. Very few of these lighthouses remain. The old steamboats are gone. But Maryland crab cakes remain; and are famous. breaded and fried or baked.
