Description
Back in 1910 automobiles were considered rich mens toys. $5000.00 for a custom built Pierce Arrow was a fortune to the average working person. And cars were complicated and balky. They required a lot of maintenance. A chauffeur was considered a good idea. Henry Ford changed all that with his introduction of the Model T and the assembly line.
Innovation and serving the needs of the many.
My dad, who was born in 1903, told me a story about his first car. He was a hard worker and had saved enough to finally purchase a new 1923 Model T Ford. He brought it home from the showroom with great pride. His brothers came out to inspect and give advice. They were pretty excited. They opened all the doors and the hood of the motor. They ran inside to get the parents and the grand father. After all, these were immigrants. And this was a big deal. Just then a big truck came lumbering down the street and took off all the doors and fenders on the left side. He never let his brothers touch his next car.
