Description
Once a popular Philadelphia eyesore, the old Bijou always seemed to have been abandoned and shuttered. Kind of a landmark. Taken about 45 years ago, it makes you realize how different our cities once looked.

Is this the one they're trying to save? Beautiful colors and texture on this Ira!
Ira Shander replied:
I don't think they ever tried to save this theater. I remember my mother telling me it was a silent movie theater before WW One when she was a kid. They lived in Northern Liberties at 4th and Green. I think that area of the Bijou was known as the tenderloin district with lots of prostitution and other unsavory goings on. Later the new Police Administration Building was erected on the site. Now turned into condos like everything else. I took this Kodachrome slide in 1970.
