Description
Back in 1916, there there were no radios, TV's, internet, or smart phones. Information and advertising was done through the medium of magazines and newspapers. People depended on the printed page for news of the world around them. And there tons of magazines from which to choose. Four color reproduction was very costly and time consuming. Adding a second color gave the illusion of vibrancy. And illustration was in its heyday. Artists were in demand. Also, by 1916 women's clothing was becoming more comfortable. In offices men wore suits and ties. Everyone wore hats. Wearing nice clothes was a sign of respectability. This was very important to the emerging middle class. People judged you by how you looked.
