Description
Paris has experienced many highs and lows. The period around 1900 was a time of prosperity, creativity in the arts, and high expectations. This historic photo from around 1900 shows the classic view of the Luxor Obelisk, fountains, and Hotel Crillon to the left. Some consider this the most beautiful public space in Paris. It was first called Louis XV place. And later Revolution Place. Louis the XVl and Marie-Antoinette were guillotined on this bloody spot. The two buildings in the background were originally mansions.
