This street which leads into San Gimignano is actually very monochromatic. You get the feeling that life in the middle ages was very insular. People had to ward off thieves and marauders. Your door had to be on the second floor, narrow and with a ladder. No wonder they needed a Renaissance and gunpowder. It was extremely hot when I was there. I wanted to convey some of this feeling.
