Description
This stately mansion is located in San Francisco at 819 Eddy Street, It was constructed in 1885. Miraculously it survived The Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906. I believe it is currently occupied by law offices; and lovingly restored. The last time I visited the city in 1985, I was fortunate to be shown the interior. The parlor still had the original pocket doors with the lightening like cracks in the glass from the moment the earthquake struck.

Fantastic work.
Ira Shander replied:
Thank you both. The last time I saw the house in person it was painted in muted colors. Well tended and holding its own.

Most impressive! Did you work from a photograph or have you got a photographic memory?

So many beautiful illustrations to look at Ira. Today this one is a favorite because it survived the Great Earthquake and I can admire it thanks to you!

Hard to believe today but much of the ornament was prefabricated. You could order it from catalogues and lumber yards. Many of the the original pattern books still exist.

Really fine drawing. Love older houses.
Ira Shander replied:
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I love all kinds of houses, but Victorians send me. Fitting them out for today's living can be quite a trial.

Your work is really nice Ira. Good for you and your drawing!!!
Ira Shander replied:
William, I took some time to look at your illustrations this afternoon. While photography is great and I love it, drawing adds a much different dimension. Would love to see more of your fine work. Ira Shander
