Description
Esopus was one of the critically important lighthouses helping to keep river traffic safely flowing before GPS and radar. Almost one of the last wooden lights left on the Hudson River.
In the 19th century there was a large amount of passenger steamboat traffic from Manhattan's west side terminals to Albany. With the poor illumination of those days, I've often wondered how these floating palaces were able to travel at night. But travel they did.
