Description
Nobska Light sits near the south end of the Cape Cod Canal, not far from Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The canal was built to shorten the distance and facilitate shipping in and out of Boston. The first lighthouse was built in 1826. It was a whitewashed stone cottage with a small tower on the roof. Greatly needed in these perilous waters. The current Nobska Light dates from 1876; and is strictly government issue. They used the same design for towers and keeper's residences. Everything was automated in 1985. If you decide to visit, check the weather for fog.
