Budapest as we know it today is mostly a 19th century town. An explosion of development and talent culminated in a golden age of prosperity and culture. I came upon this magnificent room by accident. About five years ago I wandered into this stunning secession style book shop on Andrassy Street. Going upstairs on the escalator I noticed this ornate room that had become a coffee shop restaurant. You have to see this room to believe it. The architect incorporated Florentine motifs with wood paneling an huge mirrors. Words cannot describe. I saw a photo of this room from the 1870's. It's just as it was. But the rest of the building had been modernized before the first World War. Budapest, Prague, and Vienna, were the three great cities of pre 1914 Austria-Hungary. A trip to any of these cities is time well spent.
Hello, and thank-you for taking time to visit my web site. As a long time illustrator specializing in pen and ink, photography developed as a means for me to become expressive in color. My specialty as a line artist has always been history and architecture. I've created series for major companies, publishers, and cultural institutions throughout the United States. Take time to visit some of my galleries. I welcome commissions such as house portraits and hobby related subject matter. Again, take a peek at the galleries to get a better idea. I hope that you enjoy both means of expression and visit often. Thanks, Ira Shander
