Believe it or not, this station still exists. Today it's used as the thrift shop for Bryn Mawr Hospital. Bryn Mawr is a lovely suburb on Philadelphia's Main Line. When railroads were new and taking over from canals, Bryn Mawr was known as Whitehall. The name was taken from a nearby resort hotel. People came out from Philadelphia to cool off from the oppressive heat and humidity of the city. Then, this was a stop on the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad. Later the line became obsolete and was purchased by the growing Pennsylvania Railroad . There's much more to this story. My drawing shows Whitehall around 1864.
Hello, and thank-you for taking time to visit my web site. As a long time illustrator specializing in pen and ink, photography developed as a means for me to become expressive in color. My specialty as a line artist has always been history and architecture. I've created series for major companies, publishers, and cultural institutions throughout the United States. Take time to visit some of my galleries. I welcome commissions such as house portraits and hobby related subject matter. Again, take a peek at the galleries to get a better idea. I hope that you enjoy both means of expression and visit often. Thanks, Ira Shander

Terrific pen and ink drawing!
Ira Shander replied:
This old station still exists. It has morphed into a hospital thrift shop. There are very few of these from before the American Civil War and pioneer period of railroad development.

Holy moley.. Ira... the detail is unbelievable
Ira Shander replied:
Thanks James. This ancient railroad station still exists. It is now a hospital thrift shop.

Superbly illustrated! I would think that there must have been quite a lot of people of Welsh ancestry in that part of the world, going by its name.
