Description
The Paris we see today, was the vision Of Louis Napoleon and Baron Haussmann. Before the 1850's the city was a warren twisty streets and cramped quarters. Disease, sewage, and clean water were tremendous civic problems. During a twenty year period, the city was torn apart to make possible the grand boulevards. The Garnier Opera House was the crown jewel of much of this development. When Napoleon III was deposed in 1870, much of the work stopped. That's why some streets even today end or begin oddly.
