The Pantheon was at one time a Roman temple; and later became a Christian church. Because of this the interior is probably one of the best preserved from the period. The oculus lights the space naturally during daylight. And when rain comes through the open oculus it cleverly drains to vents on the gently sloping floor. The Romans were good engineers.
