Description
At one time San Francisco was considered a visually blah city. That is architecturally. Nobody had any idea how rich the city was in colorful shape and detail. Once color was rediscovered, the city literally came alive in exciting colors and contrasts. When the earthquake of 1906 struck, it was fashionable to paint everything white with green shutters. Then, after World War Two, battleship gray. This fashion all began in 1893 after the Columbian Exposition closed in Chicago. The fair was known as the "White City". Because everything was painted classic white. All it took were a few brave hippies and architectural historians to get the ball rolling and the rest is history.
