Description
Ocean Grove, New Jersey is a charming old seaside resort town, Originally founded in the 19th century as a dry religious community, its splendid facades reflect the aspirations of America's rising middle classes. Booze and unbridled drinking in those days was considered a real social problem. Alcoholism ruined a lot of families and lives. Religious towns such as Ocean Grove tried to set the tone. But Americans by and large preferred it the other way. That's why Prohibition was such a failure. Like so many things, this was town of facades.
