Description
Before there was Coved 19, two world wars, and Czechoslovakia, there was the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Elderly Franz Josef reigned over this polyglot of peoples. Vienna, Budapest and Prague were its three major cities. Prague was the center of the Bohemian lands. Czechs chaffed at not being equally represented. German was the primary language because they were ruled from Vienna. The arts, music and culture managed to thrive. The city was populated by Czech, Jews, and Austrians. Somehow out of this mix came greatness, ...for a while. In 1900 when this building was conceived, Jugendstil and Art Nouveau where the latest craze in design and architecture. The interior of this building is an extraordinary example of this movement. Because Prague survived the war intact, it is considered a living museum of architectural history.
