Description
Way back in the 1930's and 40's, advertisers played on people's fears of not appearing clean. People were poor from the depression and appearance was everything. If you skipped shaving one day the boss or supervisor might think you were not up to the job. And jobs were scarce.
One of the shaving cream manufacturers had a slogan "Do you have five o'clock shadow?".
Body odor was another big scare tactic.
So hence the title. This is the front of the Victory Building in downtown Philadelphia at five pm.
A beautiful Victorian edifice once an insurance company. Now a ritzy condo. It was constructed in the 1870's.
