Description
Dustin Farnum was a big star of turn of the century theater and early silent films. He came from a theatrical family; and became known for his depiction of western cowboy rolls. He was quite a star. Married four times; he retired in California. He died in 1929 from kidney disease. I read that actor Dustin Hoffman was named after him. His parents were expecting a girl (Think of Tootsie). And they had no name for him when he was born. His mother saw an article in a magazine another woman was reading. It was about Dustin Farnum. And rest is history.
As a note, these early covers of The Theatre Magazine were done by some sort of photo lithographic process. The images were based upon theatrical photos, but they achieved a rich full color rendering. This was very difficult and time consuming to produce at that period. Twenty-five cents a copy was a lot of money in 1906. So people valued these issues and held on to them.
