Description
Coquille River Light dating from 1896 is the small giant amongst Northwestern US lighthouses. It seems to get featured everywhere. And it occupied an important spot vis a vis shipping. But it had problems. It's Daboll trumpet didn't always work correctly. It annoyed the local residents to no end in nearby Bandon Oregon. But the folks in Bandon became even more annoyed when their town was burned to the ground by a wild fire and shipping dried up. Thus in 1939 Coquille was decommissioned and replaced by an automatic light. Restoration began back in 1976.
