Hello, and thank-you for taking time to visit my web site. As a long time illustrator specializing in pen and ink, photography developed as a means for me to become expressive in color. My specialty as a line artist has always been history and architecture. I've created series for major companies, publishers, and cultural institutions throughout the United States. Take time to visit some of my galleries. I welcome commissions such as house portraits and hobby related subject matter. Again, take a peek at the galleries to get a better idea. I hope that you enjoy both means of expression and visit often. Thanks, Ira Shander

Outstanding depiction and image. Lovely work. L
Ira Shander replied:
Thanks Marcia. These old 19th century art cases require a lot of maintenance. I once heard Dvorak's piano at a concert in Prague. It needed work. Fun to draw.

A splendid depiction of this beautiful instrument! I knew a concert pianist who arrived only just in time for a performance and had not had time to practice anything before the audience arrived. Unfortunately the pianist who had last used the piano had left the lowest octave of keys uncovered and he did not notice this, when he started to play. He was not a happy camper! The extra notes at the lower end of the keyboard can disorientate a pianist, so they are normally "boxed in" and only uncovered if required for a particular piano work.

Thank-you Anne. I'm currently working on a series of historic piano drawings. On my site you can see an ongoing gallery with more of them. It always amazes me how ten pianists can play the same piece and interpret it so differently. Especially the 32 Beethoven sonatas.

Being a former concert pianist, your beautiful grand touches me. L/F
