Artist's Description
Many people unfamiliar with Atlantic City's origins think of it as a has been Vegas with a beach. Not true. AC was at one time one of America's premier family resorts.
The Boardwalk along with a great beach and fine hotels, was the place to be during the summer months. At the turn of the century you could take an express train for $1.00 and get there in 50 minutes from Philadelphia. Rent a wooly bathing suit for a quarter, and stuff yourself with fresh seafood. And before air conditioning, that was as close to heaven as most people could get. Everyone dressed in their finest and outdid one another. It was a place to let go and make believe. There were amusements for kids and plenty to do. Now all we have are old post cards, and fading photos.
About Ira Shander
Hello, and thank-you for taking time to visit my web site. As a long time illustrator specializing in pen and ink, photography developed as a means for me to become expressive in color. My specialty as a line artist has always been history and architecture. I've created series for major companies, publishers, and cultural institutions throughout the United States. Take time to visit some of my galleries. I welcome commissions such as house portraits and hobby related subject matter. Again, take a peek at the galleries to get a better idea. I hope that you enjoy both means of expression and visit often. Thanks, Ira Shander
