Description
Philadelphia has many arches. There is even an Arch Street. This particular type of doorway dates from the 1860's. Philadelphia like it's southern neighbor Baltimore, prides itself on its marble steps. In the old days these were scrubbed to perfection. Sameness is broken up by color and decorative wrought iron. Philadelphia was at one time a major producer of decorative iron in the United States. Much of it shipped south to Savannah and New Orleans. These homes may be found on Green Street in the Fairmount section of the city.

Perfectly titled. I remember trying to get a Lazaro's jumbo (27-inch) pizza thru doors like this. The only way it worked was to hold the box at a 45-degree angle. It was worth the gymnastics. Great shot, Ira. - Mike (V)
