Description
Czar Alexander the Second was known as the liberal Czar who freed the surfs. The thanks he got was assassination by anarchists. This chapel was erected on the spot of the murder. The form of photo mechanical coloring as shown is known as the Photochrome process. An early form of bringing color to black and white photography. This photo is from an old album begun by a wealthy American doctor who traveled extensively. The image dates from about 1895.
