Artist's Description

Port St. Denis in Paris is a rough neighborhood. But the arch dating from the 1600's is a spectacular piece of architecture. People who travel to Paris for a few days forget that Paris is a real city. Real everyday people trying to make a go of it. The arch was a customs gate for tolls and taxes on those coming and leaving the city. There were a number of them around the old city.
