Description
The Spanish steps are nowhere near Madrid. They are of course one of Rome's most famous meeting places. So much fascinating history is to be found within a block radius. The English poet John Keats died in his rooms of consumption at age 25 at the base of the steps. Babington's Tea Rooms was founded in 1896 by two British expatriates who wanted to being a touch of home to English tourists. The church at the top was founded by the French. how the steps got its final form makes for some interesting reading. The view from the top is superb.
