Description
San Francisco's iconic Embarcadero, or new Ferry Building, was constructed in the later 1890's. Miraculously, it survived both the Earthquake and Fire of 1906. At the foot of Market Street, it has become a multi functional building. It still exists as a bay area ferry terminus. But plays host to a fabulous farmer's market as well as events site. It's classical lines and simplicity show the influence of the Columbian Exposition of 1893. And especially the influence of architects Daniel Burnham and Stanford White.
